Verdict: The HG300 is a solid entry-level panel at $199 [claimed] (ev042). The HG500 at $359 [claimed] (ev055) is a pass — no independent measurement exists and the claimed irradiance lacks a distance. The PRO300 at $299 [claimed] (ev043) is a better spend for most users. If you want a panel, the HG300 is the recommendation; if you can add $100, the PRO300 is the better option. If you are not sure you need a panel, skip entirely — more power is not more benefit (ev013).

What these panels are

Hooga positions itself as the value leader in the consumer RLT panel market (ev014). The targeted-panel ladder runs from the HG200 at $149 [claimed] (ev044) up to the HG500 at $359 [claimed] (ev044). The HG300 sits at $199 [claimed] (ev042) with 60 single-chip LEDs (660nm + 850nm) and a manufacturer-claimed irradiance of 73 mW/cm² at 6 inches [claimed] (ev042). The HG500 at $359 [claimed] (ev055) has 100 LEDs and a claimed irradiance of “well over 90 mW/cm²” [claimed] (ev055) — but no distance is stated for that claim.

The measured reality (HG300)

Independent measurement by Light Therapy Insiders (Alex Fergus, 2023 review, updated 2025) gives the HG300 a peak irradiance of 69 mW/cm² [measured] and a panel average of 55 mW/cm² [measured] (ev051). That is a mild gap versus Hooga’s 73 [claimed] — the peak is about 5% below the claimed number, and the average is about 25% below the brand’s peak-style claim. This is nowhere near the 30–60% inflation seen on some other devices (ev010 note). The honest comparison axis is peak vs. peak, and average vs. average. The 55 mW/cm² average is the number that matters for dosing because it represents the entire panel’s output, not a single hot spot (ev010 as mechanism context). LTI's spectrometer testing confirmed the 660 nm red peak (ev051).

The HG500 honesty box

The HG500’s claimed “well over 90 mW/cm²” [claimed] (ev055) comes with no stated test distance. Without a distance, no dose math can be derived from the claim. As of July 2026, no independent measurement exists for the HG500 (ev055 note). Anyone quoting a session time for the HG500 is deriving it from an unanchored claim. We do not compute dose times for the HG500.

The de-rated dosing table (HG300 only)

The times below are computed from the reviewer’s measured average of 55 mW/cm² [measured] (ev051) using the formula J/cm² = mW/cm² × seconds / 1000 (ev018). The reviewer's dosing math is framed at roughly 6 inches, but the exact test distance is not stated beside the figure (ev051) — treat the table as valid near that distance only. Doubling the distance cuts irradiance by half or more (ev020). The literature reports effective dose ranges of approximately 3–60 J/cm² at tissue surface depending on the target (ev019). No single optimal dose exists.

A mid-range target of 10–20 J/cm² [estimated] works out to roughly 3–6 minutes at the measured average — worked math (ev018), not a dose recommendation (ev019). The NIR half of the panel is invisible to the eye – that is normal, not a defect (ev023).

Warranty honesty

The Hooga HG300 product page states both a “Full 2 Year Warranty” and a 3-year warranty within the same page (ev050). Light Therapy Insiders’ review states the warranty is 2 years (ev054). We have not performed our own measurements on the HG300 or HG500. All measured figures are LTI’s (ev051) with their date caveats (2023 review, updated 2025). Prices are from brand-feed fetches on 2026-07-21/22 (ev042/ev044/ev055) and can change. The HG300 review dates to 2023 (updated 2025) — hardware may have revved since (ev051). If independent measurements for the PRO300 or HG500 appear, this page changes.
